These are the most delicious Japanese cucumbers. They are long and the skins never need peeling, just harvest, slice, and enjoy. I direct sow cucumbers into warm soil after all danger of frost is over. I immediately cover them with floating row covers to keep out the striped cucumber beetle. I remove the floating row covers as the plants start to flower so they can be pollinated. Cucumbers are vigorous vines. Use a strong trellis or a tripod of tall, sturdy stakes. I sow a second crop of cucumbers after I harvest my garlic in mid July.
