Columbines are perennials. Start the seed indoors, or direct sow outdoors a few weeks before your last frost in the spring. The first year you will grow leafy plants. The second year they will start to bloom, flowering in May into June. Hummingbirds adore columbines. I don't deadhead them. Instead, I let the seed pods dry on the plant and then spread the seeds where I want more plants. For sun or partial shade. A native plant of North America.
